Now that he has more than two dozen books to his credit, Brian spoke at the Children’s Book Guild of Washington DC about how he got his start and his latest book Moonshot which won a Sibert Medal in 2009. He, like many of us, got his start purely by chance. Brain was at The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) taking a class with David Macaulay. His teacher happened to be talking to Avi who had a new idea for a book and needed an illustrator, «Did Macaulay know any student who might be interested?» Yes, he did, and Avi and Brian became collaborators and the result was City of Light City of Dark which garnered a star in Publishers Weekly .

I am standing down as Communication Secretary at the AGM after 6 years in the role.  This job is now so huge it probably requires a small team of people to cover all our comunications across the following channels: web site content and design, email, document management, membership database and newsletters, social networking on Facebook and Twitter, press liaison.  If you have an interest in any of the above and want to be part of the new Comms Team then email contact@readinghockeyclub.org.uk so we can put the new team in place and update the website and database after the AGM ready for the start of the season.

NORWALK, Conn., Apr 08, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) — More than $7.5 billion was committed to fund 459 mergers and acquisitions of home health care companies announced during the 10-year period ended December 31, 2009, according to DealSearchOnline.com. The largest of these transactions, the acquisition of Apria Healthcare Group by The Blackstone Group for nearly $1.6 billion, was announced in 2008. China Yuan ETFs (CYB, CNY) In Focus | ETF Database

Июнь 19th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Data base

It’s no secret that many economists believe China’s currency is wildly undervalued and many politicians detest Beijing’s stubbornness to discuss changes to the country’s longstanding currency policy. But as China’s importance to the world economy has surged–it is expected to account for a significant portion of global GDP growth this year–the country’s political clout has grown as well. Despite concerted efforts of numerous world leaders, a revision to the yuan-dollar peg had recently seemed very unlikely, especially after Prime Minister Wen Jiabao told the National People’s Congress last month that  the currency would remain “basically stable.”

Indonesia ETF (IDX) Shrugs Off Earthquake, But Not…

Июнь 18th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Data base

In the pre-dawn hours on Wednesday, Indonesia became the latest country to be rocked by a natural disaster, as a 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred at sea about 200 kilometers northwest of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The quake was felt throughout Sumatra and Malaysia, and there were news reports of electrical outages throughout the country. The earthquake also sparked a tsunami alert in Thailand, as authorities began issuing warnings for coastal areas popular with tourists. Thailand’s National Disaster Warning Centre warned there was a high risk of a tsunami along the Andaman Coast, the same area where more than 5,000 people dies following a 2004 tsunami. But the quake only caused small waves to wash up on Thai shores, and the warning has since been lifted.

Obama talks less of terror in outreach to Muslims

Июнь 15th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Data base

WASHINGTON — Less talk about «Islamic radicalism» and a lot more about doing business. In the year since President Barack Obama pledged a new beginning in the relationship with the Muslim world, the White House has begun to change the U.S. focus.

Terrorism still dominates U.S. security concerns, but the White House believes it doesn’t have to dominate the conversation. Since Obama’s speech in Cairo last year, the White House has tried to talk more about health care, science and education.

The idea of unwittingly paying cash for a clunker gives me a headache. Few things wreck your nerves more than putting down a lot of money on a lemon. It’s one of the reasons so many people buy new cars. Sure, there’s the appeal of having a new ride; there’s also the comfort of reliability that you might not have with an older car.
